About Sthira Yoga Academy
Stable • Steady • Strong
Sthira Yoga Academy is a small, independent yoga studio in Mittagong, in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Created by yoga teacher and educator Travis Chambers, Sthira offers a thoughtful and grounded approach to yoga — combining movement, breath, philosophy and traditional practices in a welcoming contemporary studio. Classes include Flow & Let Go (Vinyasa), Gentle Yoga, Slow Yoga (Yin) and Kriya (Kundalini-inspired practice), alongside workshops, private yoga and Yoga Teacher Training.
Sthira means steadiness. It reflects what sits at the heart of the studio: developing strength and stability in our practice so that we can find greater steadiness in an unsteady world.
Thousands of Teaching Hours
Practice in person
Diverse Styles, One Experienced Guide
Depth of Practice. Real Teaching.
My teaching has developed through many years of practice, study and thousands of hours spent teaching students and training yoga teachers.
I believe yoga can be physically strong without becoming performative, traditional without becoming inaccessible, and philosophical without losing its relevance to everyday life.
At Sthira, we explore more than yoga postures. Movement is accompanied by breath, meditation, Sanskrit, mantra, philosophy and other aspects of the broader yoga tradition where they belong naturally within the practice.
Whether you come to a weekly class, a workshop or Yoga Teacher Training, there is no expectation that you already know any of this.
You simply begin where you are.
A comfortable space to practice
Sthira is deliberately a small studio, allowing classes to remain personal and giving me the opportunity to know the people who practise here.
During the cooler months, the studio is gently warmed using radiant heat. This is not hot yoga. The intention is simply to create a comfortable environment while allowing your body to warm naturally through movement and breath.
Different practices have different needs. Gentle Yoga and Slow Yoga remain softer and cooler, while Flow & Let Go and Kriya may be warmed more actively to support movement and energy.
Train to Teach
Sthira’s 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training is offered here in the Southern Highlands for students looking for a small, in-person and genuinely educational training experience.
The program goes beyond learning a collection of postures. We explore how to teach, sequence and communicate effectively while developing a deeper understanding of yoga philosophy, anatomy, Sanskrit, pranayama, meditation and the traditions from which modern yoga has developed.
Small cohorts allow time for questions, discussion, practice and individual development. Whether your intention is to teach or simply to understand your own practice more deeply, the training is an opportunity to spend meaningful time immersed in yoga.
Meet Travis
I’m Travis Chambers, founder of Sthira Yoga Academy and an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher and educator.
Yoga has been part of my life for many years, taking me through different teachers, traditions, studios and periods of my own life. I’ve taught thousands of hours of classes and have spent many years helping other students become yoga teachers. Sthira represents where that experience has brought me.
I’m interested in yoga that has substance: intelligent movement, breath, philosophy, meditation, Sanskrit, mantra and the continuing process of learning how these practices fit into a modern life. I don’t believe you need to be flexible, spiritual, young or experienced to practise yoga. You don’t need to perform it or fit a particular image. You just need somewhere to begin.
